Abaca Flowers

Abaca fiber is processed in a wiz mixer, and I form sheets of paper with a mold and deckle.  After this process, the paper is torn by hand and rolled in various thicknesses to form flower shapes and petals.

Pigment, calcium carbonate, and sizing are added into the mixture for versatility and longevity.

I identified this body of work as a floral vessel series. Space was created within each form; at some point, I may decide to add symbolic messages inside each flower.
